Hot Water You Can Count On
Water heating is one of the largest energy expenses in a typical home. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, water heating accounts for roughly 18 percent of household energy use, second only to space heating and cooling. The unit you choose, the way it’s installed, and how well it’s maintained all directly affect your monthly utility bill, your hot water reliability, and how long the system lasts before it needs to be replaced.
Peace of Mind Plumbing is a small, owner-operated shop run by Nicholas Singleton, a Texas Master Plumber (RMP 41912) with more than 35 years in the trade. He works every job himself, so the same plumber who diagnoses your water heater is the one who installs the new one or makes the repair. No upselling, no salespeople in khakis, no commissioned dispatcher pushing you toward a replacement when a repair will do. Just a straight read on what your system actually needs.
We install Rheem as our preferred brand for traditional tank water heaters because the units hold up in East Texas conditions, and we have working relationships with the major tankless manufacturers including Navien, Rinnai, and Rheem tankless. We serve homeowners and business owners across six counties, and we work on both gas and electric units. Every new water heater we source and install carries a 1-year warranty.

Tank or Tankless, We Handle Both
Two paths to hot water, two different systems. Both have their place in East Texas homes, and the right choice depends on your household’s hot water demand, your fuel type, your installation space, and how long you plan to stay in the home. The pages below break down each option in detail.
Traditional water heaters in 40 and 50 gallon tank sizes, gas or electric, with Rheem as our preferred brand for the East Texas market. Tank-style units have a lower upfront cost than tankless and are a strong fit for most single-family homes with predictable hot water needs. We handle install, repair, and replacement, including failed heating elements, thermostats, T&P relief valves, dip tubes, and tanks at end of life. Most repairs are handled in a single visit.
On-demand hot water with no tank, longer lifespan, and lower standby energy loss compared to traditional units. We install and service Navien, Rinnai, and Rheem tankless systems for both gas and electric (where applicable). We also offer a $225 tankless water heater maintenance service that covers cleaning, descaling, and calcium buildup removal, which is especially important in East Texas where the water tends to run hard. A well-maintained tankless unit can run 20 years or more.
Not Sure What Your Water Heater Needs?
Water heater problems show up in patterns. Match what you’re seeing to the most likely cause, then call us and we’ll confirm with an on-site inspection.
- No hot water in the house at all
Could be a tripped breaker (electric units), a pilot light or igniter issue (gas units), a failed heating element, or a tank that’s emptied because of a slab leak or supply line problem. We test the electrical, gas, and supply systems to isolate the cause before recommending a fix. Many no-hot-water calls are repairs, not replacements.
- Hot water runs out quickly
A tank that used to handle the morning routine and now runs cold halfway through usually points to one of three things: a failed lower heating element on an electric unit, a broken dip tube that’s mixing cold incoming water with hot outgoing water, or sediment buildup that has reduced the tank’s effective capacity. All three are diagnosable on a service call.
- Popping, rumbling, or banging from the water heater
That noise is sediment. Mineral buildup at the bottom of the tank traps water underneath, and when that water boils, the bubbles burst against the sediment layer and make the noise. East Texas is a hard water region, so this happens faster here than in soft water markets. A tank flush sometimes helps. A unit that’s been making this noise for years is usually past the point of recovery and needs replacement.
- Water around the base of the water heater
A leak at the bottom of a tank is almost always the tank itself failing from corrosion, and the unit needs to be replaced. A leak from the top is more often a fitting, a valve, or a pressure relief discharge, and is usually a repair. Either way, get it looked at before the leak gets worse and damages the floor or surrounding cabinets.
- Water heater is 10 years old or older
Traditional tank water heaters typically run 10 to 15 years. If yours is in that range and giving you trouble, replacement is often more cost-effective than another repair, especially if the new unit will run more efficiently and carry a fresh manufacturer warranty. We’ll give you an honest read on whether the existing unit has more life left or whether it’s time.
Why Water Heater
Work Should Be Done Right
Right-Sized for Your Household
A water heater that’s undersized leaves you running out of hot water. One that’s oversized wastes energy and costs more to run. We size traditional tanks based on your household size and peak demand, and we size tankless units based on flow rate and incoming water temperature. East Texas groundwater runs cooler than the Gulf Coast, so tankless sizing here is not the same as it would be in Houston.
Code-Compliant Installation
Gas connections, venting, the temperature and pressure relief valve, the expansion tank where required, and the drain pan all have to meet Texas plumbing code. Cut corners on any of these and you risk a failed inspection, a voided warranty, or worse, a dangerous unit. Every install we do is performed to current code by a licensed Master Plumber.
East Texas Hard Water Means Maintenance Matters
Texas groundwater carries significant calcium and magnesium content, particularly in the East Texas Piney Woods region. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality monitors water quality across public supply systems and notes that mineral content varies widely by source. Hard water shortens water heater life by depositing scale on heating elements and inside tank linings. Routine flushing on traditional units and descaling on tankless units adds years of service life.
Master Plumber and 1-Year Warranty
Nicholas holds a Texas Master Plumber license, RMP 41912, and brings 35+ years of field experience to every job. Every new water heater we source and install carries a 1-year warranty from us, on top of whatever manufacturer warranty the unit comes with. Licensed, bonded, and insured.

I called them Friday and they said they’d be out first thing Monday morning and they were here by 8:30. They did high quality repair work on pipes and replaced two sink facets. It looks so much better than before and works like there was never an issue. The best part of this review is they were REASONABLE on charges. Highly recommend!

Water Heater Questions
Straight answers. No filler.
How much does a new water heater cost in East Texas?
Cost depends on tank versus tankless, gas versus electric, gallon capacity, brand, and the complexity of the install (whether the existing connections, venting, and gas line are reusable or need updates). We provide a clear written quote before any work begins, and there are no surprise charges added at the end. Call us at (936) 652-6335 for a quote on your specific situation.
How long do water heaters last?
Traditional tank units typically last 10 to 15 years, and tankless units can run 20 years or more with proper maintenance. East Texas hard water shortens both numbers without regular service, so a unit that’s flushed annually and has its anode rod replaced as needed will outlast one that’s been left alone since the day it was installed.
Should I go tankless or stick with a traditional tank?
Tankless units cost more upfront but use less energy, take up less space, and last longer. Traditional tanks have a lower install cost and are a fine choice for households with predictable hot water needs. The right answer depends on your hot water demand, fuel type, install space, and how long you plan to stay in the home. We’ll walk you through both options when we look at your existing setup.
Do you work on gas and electric water heaters?
Both. Gas water heater repair, electric water heater repair, and install for both fuel types. Same Master Plumber on every job, residential or commercial. We also handle the gas line work for tankless conversions when the existing supply needs to be upsized.
Do you offer a warranty on water heater work?
Yes. Every new water heater we source and install carries a 1-year warranty from us. The unit itself comes with the manufacturer’s warranty (typically 6 to 12 years on traditional tanks, longer on tankless), which we register on your behalf at install. We do not warranty customer-supplied units, only the ones we source.
